Ask for a useful rotary compression report

Discuss whether a specialist can perform a warm-engine rotary compression test and provide the readings for each rotor face, together with test speed and equipment details. A generic claim that compression is “good” gives much less information than a dated report. Testing must be agreed with the seller; it is not automatically included with every listing.

Read rebuild claims carefully

A rebuilt engine is not a complete specification. Ask who carried out the work, when it was done, the mileage since completion, which parts were replaced and what warranty documentation exists. Retain invoices and discuss the evidence with a rotary specialist.

Compare the exact variant and setup

FD cars vary by year, trim, transmission and modifications. Mazda’s published model information distinguishes manual and automatic variants. Establish whether the original sequential turbo arrangement, cooling system and engine management have been retained or changed before comparing prices.
