Turbo and non-turbo are separate comparisons

The A80 range includes the naturally aspirated 2JZ-GE and twin-turbo 2JZ-GTE. Toyota offered different transmissions and equipment across grades and years. Establish the factory specification before comparing prices, and check whether the present engine, gearbox and ECU match that specification.

Confirm a manual car’s history

A manual conversion can suit some buyers, but it should be clearly documented. Ask for the original model and transmission details, conversion invoices and the scope of the work. A gear lever and a seller’s title alone cannot establish that the car left the factory as a manual.

Look closely at tuning and maintenance

For modified cars, request the parts list, engine-build receipts and tuning records where available. Discuss compression testing, cooling-system checks and underbody inspection before approving the purchase. Confirm destination eligibility for the car in its current configuration.
